What is AI coaching?
Last updated 2026-08-07
AI coaching is coaching where the conversation partner is a language model instead of a human. It asks questions, reflects and helps the leader prepare — available at any time and without an appointment. It does not replace human coaching in personal crises, but covers the many small situations where a leader would otherwise not ask anyone.
What is AI coaching used for?
- Preparing a specific conversation: what should be said first, what is the goal?
- Processing a conversation afterwards and finding the next step.
- Reflecting on own patterns as a leader.
- Getting structure around a decision or prioritisation.
What are the strengths?
Availability and low threshold. Many leaders do not ask for help because it feels like admitting they cannot handle the job. An AI coach removes the social cost and can be used at 10 p.m. the night before a difficult conversation.
What are the limitations?
- It does not know your organisation beyond what you tell it.
- It is not healthcare and should not be used for mental illness.
- It does not replace HR or legal assessment in formal HR cases.
- Quality depends on how well it is instructed for Norwegian working life.
How is privacy handled?
Use solutions where data is processed within the EU/EEA, with a data processing agreement and clear deletion. Avoid entering names of employees and sensitive health information in free-text fields.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI coaching the same as therapy?
No. Coaching is about goals, choices and actions in a work situation. For mental health concerns, contact healthcare professionals.
Can the employer see what I ask about?
That depends on the solution. In LeaderSkills the content of coaching conversations is private to the individual leader; HR sees aggregated usage, not conversation text.
