AI role-play or role-play with an actor?
Last updated 16 October 2026
A skilled actor is still the most realistic counterpart, especially in groups with a facilitator and a debrief. AI role-play wins on access: every manager can practise alone, often and without an audience, at a fraction of the price per session.
| AI role-play (LeaderSkills.ai) | Actor | |
|---|---|---|
| Realism | High, reacts to wording and tone | Highest, with body language and improvisation |
| Access | Any time, alone | Scheduled session, often in a group |
| Repetitions | Unlimited | Few per manager |
| Psychological safety | No audience | Colleagues watch |
| Cost | From 599 kr/month per manager (NOK) | Fee per session for actor and facilitator |
When an actor fits better
Leadership programmes with group sessions, where the group learns from watching each other.
When AI role-play fits better
When every manager needs to practise their own conversations several times, without an audience and without waiting for the next session.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI role-play as realistic as an actor?
Not quite. A good actor reads body language and improvises in ways AI does not. But the AI counterpart reacts to wording and tone, and becomes more open or more dismissive depending on how you meet it. That is enough to practise the hard part: saying what needs to be said.
Can we combine them?
Yes. Use the actor at the group session where people learn from each other, and let managers practise their own conversations in LeaderSkills.ai before and after.
